Movie Convention Research: Megan

What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

Megan is a new suspense film that adheres to numerous conventions that I will attempt to employ. Highly would recommend. Seemed replicable. We have several special effects in the editing that enhance to the film, as well as rapid shot transitions. Create a scarier impression. Tilt  shots, for example, add excitement, tracking views with unsteady cameras. Which produce nerves. Also low or far angles to create a suspenseful/scary impression. Also, there is frequently dark lighting. Which causes an unknown feeling, and numerous clothes or places. Which generate unsettling feelings

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like?

I honestly loved the effects of the film. For instance there were many times where we see Megan dash by or creep up through behind. Definitely enhanced with effects. Cause suspense, I'd definitely do something similar in my film. Fun to do.

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

Although many suspenseful films include this. I dislike it when they make an obvious conflict (acting) or make it obvious what the source of problem will be. Like giving Megan obviously creepy features early on which ruin the mystery aspect.  I'm not sure I'd include that in my film. Very disruptive.

Short film research: Oracle/Thriller

a. Common Sounds: Suspenseful Score: Orchestral strings, eerie pianos, building crescendos, sudden silences. Diegetic Sounds: Footsteps, creaking floorboards, dripping water, car engines, tense breathing, whispers. Sound Effects: Sharp stings, glass shattering, phone ringing, doors slamming, mechanical whirring. b. Common Mis-en-Scene (CLAMPS): Lighting: Chiaroscuro (light and shadow), use of cold blues and greens, isolated spotlights, darkness in corners. Scene 1: Establishing shot of the street with the name of the studio in the skyline. Scene 2: Shot of missing posters and the name of production company is shown on one of the missing posters. Scene 3: Shot of sidewalk then reporter comes in frame walking and actors names are being displayed  Scene 4: Reporter enters a building, which is their job. Medium long shot is used and film name appears on wall as person walks by.  Scene 5: Reporter walks into job saying "hi" to co-workers. Music and edited by appear on screen  Scene 6: Reporter walks to his office/cubicle and sets himself up.
