Movie Convention Research: Smile
What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
Smile is a suspense/horror genre which follows many conventions that I will try to use. For instance there are pan shots. Which add intensity. Tracking shot with shaky camara. Which cause nerve. And low or far angles. Cause a sort of suspenseful/scary effect. In the Editing side we have many special effects. Which add to the film. And rapid shot transitioning. Cause a scarier effect. Additionally there's often dark lighting. Which cause unknown. And many costumes or settings which cause scary imagery.
What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like?
I honestly loved the lighting the overall scenery of the film. The producers did a great job at creating a dark and misterioso essence which caused me to love this concept. It honestly add lots to the film and makes a big difference between a suspenseful film and an ordinary one.
What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
Although many suspenseful movies have (acting) this I don't like the when they constantly create a jump scare or a repetitive scare. Even though it causes a more scary effect every once in a while it soon gets predictable and boring. I'd most likely not put it in my film.
